Sedarvp Ghana Joins the DiGE Project Virtual Round Table Discussion on Gender Equality Hosted Cyprus and Uganda.

On March 12, 2025, Sedarvp Ghana proudly participated in a groundbreaking Round Table Discussion as part of the third year long-scale event of the DiGE Project cofounded by Europeon Union and Erasmus.
The event, themed “#Cancel Hate Speech: Reclaiming Digital Spaces for Equality,” gathered young voices from Kenya, Ghana, Cyprus, Spain, Uganda, Bulgaria and Malawi, digital rights advocates, gender equality specialists, policy experts, and tech representatives to address the growing challenge of online hate speech and digital misogyny.
Key Highlights from the Discussion
The event, co-hosted by young participants from Uganda and Cyprus, provided a platform for insightful conversations on digital rights and gender equality. Panelists explored critical topics such as:
✔ The Root Causes of Digital Hate: Experts dissected why hate speech and digital misogyny persist in online spaces, emphasizing the role of anonymity and cultural biases.
✔ The Psychological & Political Impact: Discussions highlighted how cyber harassment and bullying affect mental health, political participation, and freedom of expression, particularly for women and marginalized groups.
✔ The Role of Social Media Algorithms: Panelists explained how algorithms can amplify hate speech, making it more visible and dangerous. Calls were made for tech companies to take greater responsibility in curbing harmful content.
✔ The Power of Digital Literacy & Counter-Narratives: Participants stressed the importance of educating young people on identifying and challenging hate speech, using digital platforms to spread positive narratives.
✔ Youth as Change Agents: The discussion concluded with strategies for young people to combat online hate through activism, reporting mechanisms, and creating inclusive digital spaces.
A Call to Action
One of the most powerful moments of the discussion came from a speaker who stated:
“Gender equality is not just about giving equal numbers to both genders but crafting equal opportunities and access to both genders.”
This statement underscored the need for inclusive policies, digital reforms, and continuous advocacy to bridge existing gender gaps.
Sedarvp Ghana remains committed to fostering a safer digital space for all and will continue working with partners to promote equality in both online and offline spaces through the DiGE project.
